Stockpile volume measurement
A stockpile is working inventory. Insight turns aerial imagery into estimated material volumes, helping yard managers reconcile quantities, plan purchases and track material on hand. Based in Prior Lake, we serve Scott County and the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area.
Know what’s in the pile.
A quantity you can trace back to a defined pile, capture date and measurement method.
434 yd³
From the surface to the base.
A clearer view of the material on hand.
Where it helps
- Gravel, sand and aggregate stockpiles
- Topsoil, mulch and compost inventory
- Accessible outdoor road salt piles
- Concrete and asphalt recycling stockpiles
Your deliverables
- Annotated site overview with agreed pile identifiers
- Estimated volume per pile in cubic yards or cubic meters
- Base-surface method, capture date and validation notes
- Summary table and PDF report; additional exports agreed in scope
Final formats, coverage and review requirements are confirmed in your proposal.
From brief to report
Define the inventory
Identify each pile, material and reporting unit. Review visibility, access, equipment movements and whether the ground beneath the pile is known.
Capture and reconstruct
Capture overlapping images and process a surface model. Establish suitable scale and ground references, then review coverage and independent checks appropriate to the intended use.
Measure and explain
Draw the pile boundary and compare the reconstructed surface with an agreed base. Report estimated volume and the assumptions that materially affect it.
Scope and review requirements
A drone photograph alone is not an inventory measurement. Base selection, image quality, scale validation and obscured material affect the result. We confirm a suitable workflow before accepting the measurement scope. Volume is not weight; tonnage needs a supplied, defensible bulk density. No universal accuracy percentage or survey-grade claim is implied.
Tell us about the site.
Send the yard location, material types, approximate pile count, last measurement method and intended use of the report. Include any base survey or empty-pad model and whether this is a one-time or recurring visit.

Before we fly
Can you measure irregular or connected piles?
Irregular visible surfaces can be reconstructed, but connected piles need agreed dividing boundaries. Material against walls, under conveyors or hidden by vegetation may require additional capture or exclusions.
Can the report show tons?
It can include a calculated weight estimate when a suitable material bulk density and units are supplied. Moisture, compaction and product composition affect density. Scale tickets remain a different source of evidence.
Can you quote against an existing provider?
Yes. Share the reporting scope, frequency, site details and any required formats. We can prepare a competitive proposal without assuming your current provider’s method or promising a lower price.
Invite us to quote.
Request a competitive proposal with clear scope, practical deliverables and flexible recurring arrangements. We’ll review your needs and explain how we would approach the work.
